Facebook Marketplace auto-reply for car dealers: every option, and the one thing they all depend on

Short answer

Car dealers have more ways than ever to answer Marketplace buyers fast. Meta’s built-in availability reply, live since March 2026, answers “is this still available?” from the listing details. Meta Muse, a personal agent launched in September 2026, can work a salesperson’s Marketplace and Messenger threads from their own account. Paid tools such as CARVID’s AI Inbox and RelayAuto add CRM lead delivery, booking and team routing. Every one of them answers from the listing, so a wrong price, missing mileage or a sold car still live turns every reply into a mistake. That is the part AutoLander owns: every unit posted from your feed and kept true, so whatever answers your buyers is right.

The most common message on a car listing is also the least interesting one: “Is this still available?” For years dealers paid for software to answer it at 9pm. In 2026 Meta built an answer into Marketplace itself, and then shipped a personal agent that can carry the conversation further.

This page compares Meta’s own options with the paid ones, covers the buyer-hunting feature dealer tools now sell next to them, and spells out what each one gets wrong when the listing is wrong. Vendor details were checked on September 26, 2026.

What does Meta’s built-in availability reply do?

In March 2026 Meta gave Marketplace sellers an AI reply that drafts and sends answers to buyers using the listing’s description, availability, pickup location and price. You turn it on and preview it while creating a listing. For a car, that covers the first question most buyers ask, on Meta’s own system.

It has two limits worth knowing. It answers from the listing, so if the listing shows last week’s price or a car that sold yesterday, it confirms both. And it is switched on listing by listing, which for a dealer posting fifty units means fifty toggles.

Can Meta Muse answer Marketplace buyers for a dealer?

Muse, launched September 8, 2026, is a personal AI agent with connectors into Facebook, Marketplace included, and Messenger. That lets it watch a salesperson’s Marketplace threads, answer buyers from that person’s own account under written rules, book a visit on their calendar and follow up days later with memory of what the buyer asked. It works within a weekly usage limit, and by default it asks before important actions.

Two things separate it from a dealer inbox product. It belongs to one person, so a store gets one Muse per salesperson rather than one inbox for the team. And it delivers no ADF leads to a CRM; what it learns stays in its memory and in the thread.

For many stores that is enough. The first reply is fast, it sounds like the rep, and it comes from Meta’s own system rather than third-party software driving the account.

What do paid auto-reply tools still add?

CARVID’s AI Inbox answers Messenger buyers around the clock, qualifies them, captures contact details, books test drives and sends ADF leads into CRMs such as VinSolutions, DealerSocket, eLEAD, CDK and Reynolds. CARVID also sells a voice agent for phone calls and DM replies on Instagram and Google Business Profile. The inbox is included on its $249 Solo plan and priced as a $299 or $499 monthly add-on on its Growth and Enterprise plans, which cover up to 5 and 10 users.

RelayAuto runs a cloud platform whose AI lead replies go out in under 10 seconds and book appointments into your scheduling system, priced per user plus a platform fee. Our RelayAuto comparison and CARVID comparison cover both in detail.

Pay for those when the plumbing matters: several reps sharing one queue, leads that must land in VinSolutions or eLEAD, a phone agent, or reporting a general manager will read. If the goal was only a fast first answer, Meta’s own tools now cover it.

Buyer hunting: the other paid feature Muse now covers

Dealer tools sell a second AI feature next to the inbox: hunting Marketplace for private-party cars to buy. CARVID Acquire contacts up to 1,200 sellers a month, negotiates and follows up for 60 days, for $599 a month for one user or $1,799 for five.

Muse runs the same hunt as a recurring task: search Marketplace every morning against your buy box, compare each car with similar listings, shortlist and line up the opening message. Meta says it negotiates within limits the user sets; in at least one published test it drafted the message for the person to send, so supervise the first week. Muse is sized for one buyer’s hunt. Contacting 1,200 sellers a month across a team is the volume CARVID is selling.

What goes wrong with any auto-reply on a car listing

These failures look the same whether Meta, Muse or a vendor sends the message, because each one starts in the listing.

  • It confirms a sold car. If the listing is still live, the reply says the car is available and a buyer drives in for nothing.
  • It quotes an old price. The desk dropped it on Tuesday, the listing did not change, and the store now has to explain the number or honor it.
  • It guesses at mileage. A blank mileage field invites an answer that is invented or dodged, and both cost trust.
  • It keeps talking when a person is needed. Trade, credit, title and complaints need a human within one message.
  • It speaks for the store unwatched. Every reply is a promise, whether anyone saw it go out or not.
  • Third-party tools add account risk. A vendor’s software replying on the same personal profile that holds your listings puts both at risk if Meta dislikes the pattern. The reasoning behind our own choice is public.

How to set up Marketplace auto-reply the safe way

Start with the listing, because every reply reads it.

  1. Fix the listing facts firstEvery automatic answer reads the listing. Post from your inventory feed so price, mileage and availability match the lot, and sold cars come down the day they sell. The inventory sync page explains how.
  2. Turn on Meta’s availability replySwitch it on as each listing is created and preview the draft once, so the first “is it available?” gets an instant answer.
  3. Give each rep’s Muse written rulesSpell out what it may answer (availability, hours, directions, booking a visit) and what it must hand over (any price below the listing, trades, payments, credit, title and complaints).
  4. Set hand-off alertsAsk Muse to message the rep the moment a buyer raises something on the hand-off list, and to stop replying on that thread until the rep answers.
  5. Read the transcripts weeklyA sales manager spends twenty minutes a week reading what went out and tightens the rules wherever an answer said too much.
  6. Measure the first response timeTrack how fast buyers hear back and how many conversations become appointments. Our response time guide shows why the first reply wins the visit.

Why AutoLander does not sell auto-reply

We decided early that AutoLander would never touch the Marketplace inbox. It does not read messages, send replies or route conversations. Third-party inbox automation on a personal Facebook profile is where account-health risk concentrates, and a bot answering from a stale listing does more harm than a slow human.

Meta answering on Meta’s own platform is a different case, and it is the one we point dealers to: the availability reply today, and Muse on each salesperson’s account. Our part is upstream. AutoLander posts every unit from your inventory feed and keeps the price, mileage, photos and sold status true, so whatever answers the buyer is answering about a car that is actually there. If you are weighing a vendor anyway, start with AI chat for car dealers.

Frequently asked questions

Does Facebook Marketplace have a built-in auto-reply?

Yes. Meta AI’s availability reply, available to Marketplace sellers since March 2026, drafts and sends answers from the listing details and is switched on per listing. Past the first question, Meta Muse can work a salesperson’s Marketplace and Messenger threads from their own account.

How do I turn on auto-reply for Facebook Marketplace?

When you create a listing, turn on the Meta AI reply option and preview the answer it will send. It uses the listing’s description, availability, pickup location and price, so check those fields first. For conversations past the first question, a personal agent such as Muse can take over under rules you write.

Does CARVID have an auto-reply?

Yes. CARVID’s AI Inbox answers buyer messages in Messenger around the clock, qualifies buyers, books test drives and sends ADF leads to CRMs. It is included on the $249 Solo plan and priced as a $299 or $499 monthly add-on on the Growth and Enterprise plans, per CARVID’s pricing page in September 2026.

Can Meta Muse reply to car buyers on Marketplace?

Muse connects to Facebook, Marketplace included, and Messenger, so it can answer buyers on its owner’s threads under written rules, and by default it asks before important actions. It is one agent per person and delivers no leads to a CRM.

Does AutoLander reply to Marketplace messages?

No. AutoLander has no inbox feature. It posts and maintains your vehicle listings from your inventory feed so the facts every reply depends on, price, mileage, availability and sold status, stay correct.

Is auto-reply against Facebook’s rules?

Meta’s own reply feature and Meta’s own agent are Meta products. Third-party tools that automate a personal account raise a different question; ask any vendor to name the Meta product and permission it relies on. The automation policy guide covers what Meta’s terms say.

Let the reply be right

Whatever answers your buyers, AutoLander keeps the listing true: every unit posted from your feed with the real price and mileage, and pulled the day it sells.
