**Short answer:** A buyer asks AI where to buy a car in your town. AEO and GEO help Google Gemini, ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity find, trust and name your store. Our free scan asks ChatGPT and Claude, web search on, up to 20 local buyer questions, 3 times each, and shows who they name, what they cite and the 3 fixes to make first.

AI Visibility is the AEO and GEO service from AutoLander, the Facebook Marketplace software for car dealers.

## What do AEO and GEO mean for a car dealership?

AEO and GEO help a dealership show up in AI answers. AEO shapes your pages so AI tools can lift a short, direct answer from them. GEO builds the trust and clear facts that lead AI chat tools to name and cite your store. Both build on SEO, and nobody can promise what an AI will say.

### What is AEO?

AEO, answer engine optimization, is formatting your content so AI tools and search features can pull out a short, direct answer: voice assistants, featured snippets and the direct answers at the top of a search. For a dealership, that means buyer questions answered in plain sentences, with price, mileage, VIN and hours on your pages as text.

### What is GEO?

GEO, generative engine optimization, is building the trust, authority and clear structure that lead AI chat tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude to reference and cite your brand. For a dealership, that means the same store facts everywhere, reviews you answer, a site AI crawlers can open and mentions on the sites assistants already cite.

### How are AEO and GEO different from SEO?

SEO, search engine optimization, is the work that helps your pages rank high in the list of search results. AEO and GEO build on the same foundation and aim at different spots on the screen: AEO at the quick, direct answer, and GEO at the AI answer that names a store and cites its sources.

| | SEO | AEO | GEO |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Main goal | Rank high in search results lists | Give a quick, direct answer | Become the cited source |
| Where it shows up | Traditional search results pages and map results | Voice assistants, featured snippets and direct answers | AI chat tools and generative summaries, such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Google’s AI Overviews |
| What it takes for a dealership | A site search engines can crawl, a page for every car and a complete Google Business Profile | Pages that answer buyer questions in the first sentence, with price, mileage, VIN and hours as page text | The same store facts everywhere, answered reviews, open doors for AI search crawlers and mentions on sites assistants cite |
| How you check it | Rankings, clicks and queries in Google Search Console | Search Console, which counts featured snippets and Google’s AI features with regular results | Repeated questions to AI assistants, like our free scan |

They share one foundation. Google says there are “no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode”: to show up as a link there, a page has to be indexed and eligible for a snippet in Google Search, which is everyday SEO work. Keep the SEO your website vendor already does, and add what AI tools need on top.

Our free scan measures two of these tools, ChatGPT and Claude, each with web search on. The work itself, from crawler access to reviews and answer pages, is what Google Gemini, AI Overviews and Perplexity read too.

### Words you will hear

- **AI Overviews:** The AI summary Google shows above the regular results for some searches, with links to the pages it drew on.
- **Citation:** A source link inside an AI answer. It shows which page the answer drew on, and whether that page was yours.
- **AI search crawler:** A bot that reads web pages so an AI tool can answer with them, such as OAI-SearchBot from OpenAI and Claude-SearchBot from Anthropic. Training crawlers such as GPTBot and ClaudeBot are separate, and you can block them without blocking search.
- **robots.txt:** A small file on your website that tells each crawler what it may read. One wrong line can keep AI search crawlers out of your whole site.
- **Structured data:** Labels in a page’s code, such as schema.org AutoDealer and vehicle offers, that tell machines what each fact on the page is. It helps assistants read a page, and on its own it won’t get a store named.
- **Answer page:** A page on your own website that answers one buyer question in its first sentence, using only your store’s facts.

## How do car buyers use AI to pick a dealer?

They ask an AI assistant the questions they used to ask a friend: which dealer, which car, is the store any good. The answer names a few dealers and says why, where a search results page lists ten links. If your store isn’t in that answer, the buyer may never see it.

19% of all car buyers used AI websites or AI-generated overviews while they shopped. [Cox Automotive, 2025 Car Buyer Journey Study, released January 2026](https://www.coxautoinc.com/insights/cox-automotive-car-buyer-journey-study-finds-efficiency-digital-tools-and-ai-drive-record-satisfaction/)

## What does an AI answer look like to a buyer?

Buyers now type the whole question, like “where should I buy a Silverado near Toms River,” and get back a short answer that names a few dealers and cites the pages it trusted. It happens in the four places buyers use most.

### ChatGPT

OpenAI

Buyers ask in the app or on the web. The answer names a dealer, gives reasons and links the sources it used.

![Illustration of a ChatGPT-style answer recommending Frank's Irvine Subaru in Lake Forest, California for a certified pre-owned Subaru Forester](https://autolander.ai/ai-visibility/ai-chat-tablet-1280.webp)

### Google AI Overviews and AI Mode

Google

The AI summary above the regular results, and the AI Mode tab, name dealers before a buyer ever scrolls to the links.

![Illustration of a Google-style AI overview naming Pine Belt Chevrolet in Lakewood, New Jersey for Silverado trucks near Toms River](https://autolander.ai/ai-visibility/ai-overview-search-1280.webp)

### Claude

Anthropic

Buyers ask it to compare options and plan the visit. It recommends a store and explains why.

![Illustration of a Claude-style answer recommending Westgate Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram in Raleigh, North Carolina to a Jeep Grand Cherokee shopper in Cary](https://autolander.ai/ai-visibility/ai-chat-desktop-1280.webp)

### Perplexity

Perplexity

Every sentence carries a numbered source, so the pages it trusts decide which dealer it names.

Our free scan measures ChatGPT and Claude, each with web search on. What we fix, from crawler access and vehicle-page text to your Google profile, reviews and answer pages, is what Google Gemini, ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity read when they decide who to name.

## How can you see AI in your own numbers?

Two free Google tools show the change from your side. Search Console shows the searches that find your site. Google Analytics shows the visits that arrive from AI assistants like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Copilot, and what those visitors do next.

### Search Console

Clicks, impressions and average position for the searches that find your site, with the exact queries buyers typed.

![Illustration of a Search Console performance report with clicks and impressions over 16 months](https://autolander.ai/ai-visibility/search-performance-1280.webp)

### Google Analytics

Sessions from AI assistants, broken out by the assistant that sent them, with engagement and key events such as leads, calls and test drives.

## What does the free AI scan check?

It checks whether ChatGPT and Claude name your store for local buyer questions, which sources they cite, whether AI can read your site and vehicle pages, and the 3 fixes to make first. Each part is tagged AEO, GEO or both.

### Who gets named (GEO)

The dealers ChatGPT and Claude name for buyer questions in your town, question by question, and how often each one comes up.

### The sources they cite (GEO)

The pages each answer cites, as links you can click, so you can see where the assistants learn about dealers near you.

### Your vehicle pages (AEO)

We open up to five vehicle pages on your website and check whether price, mileage and VIN are on the page as plain text an assistant can read.

### Your site’s front door (AEO and GEO)

Whether your robots.txt lets AI search crawlers in, and whether the security service in front of your site challenges automated visitors. If our own check is blocked, the block goes in your report as a finding.

### A score out of 100 (AEO and GEO)

Built from how often you are named, the sources that cite you, your reviews and your site’s technical readiness. Answers vary from run to run, so the score comes with a margin.

### The 3 fixes (AEO and GEO)

The three changes we would make first, written plainly enough to hand to your website vendor.

![Illustration of a sample AI Visibility Report with a score of 57 out of 100, answers from ChatGPT and Claude, and the 3 fixes](https://autolander.ai/ai-visibility/report-preview-1280.webp)

![Illustration of a vehicle page check showing price, mileage and VIN readable as page text and AI crawlers allowed in robots.txt](https://autolander.ai/ai-visibility/vehicle-page-check-1280.webp)

### AI Visibility Report · sample layout

57/100. Named in some answers, missing from most.

| Buyer question | Claude | ChatGPT |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Best used car dealer | named | rival |
| Trucks under $30k | no | named |
| Trade-in near me | rival | no |

- AI search crawlers blocked in robots.txt
- Fewer Google reviews than the dealers around you
- Vehicle pages don’t show price and mileage as text

## Why do AI answers leave good stores out?

### The door is locked

The security service in front of many websites can block AI crawlers, and some now ask site owners to choose when the site is set up. If yours blocks them, your site never gets read.

### Your story doesn’t match

Different hours, names or phone numbers across Google, Yelp and the listing sites make an assistant less sure it’s the same store.

### Reviews go unanswered

Your reviews, and how you answer them, are part of what an assistant sees about your store. Silence reads as neglect.

### Cars hidden in images

When price, mileage and VIN aren’t on the page as text, an answer can’t describe the car on your lot.

## How does the free scan work?

1. **You tell us where you sell:** Your store, website and city or ZIP. No logins, nothing to install.
2. **We ask what your buyers ask:** Up to 20 questions a buyer in your town would ask (finding a dealer, specific cars, reputation, trade-ins), put to ChatGPT and Claude with web search on, 3 times each, because answers change from run to run. Every question names your city or ZIP. If we can’t find cars on your site, we skip the car questions and say so in your report.
3. **You get the report and a walkthrough:** A person on our team checks every match and your report before it goes out, e-mails it to you and walks you through it in 20 minutes. No obligation.

- Everything every plan includes (listed below).
- 2 answer pages a month on your own website. Each answers one buyer question the scan shows you aren’t named for, opens with a direct answer, uses only your own facts, sits beside your website vendor’s live inventory block so prices stay current, and ends with a short FAQ and a last-updated date. Pages go live only after you approve them.
- 3 named competitors tracked in your report: which questions name them and the sources behind those answers.
- Every Google review answered within 2 business days.
- Review calls with your account manager at kickoff, then every quarter.

- A weekly watch that re-runs 10 of your buyer questions every week against your 3 named competitors.
- Every Google review answered within 1 business day.
- A 30-minute review call every month.

While you are subscribed, we sell no AI Visibility plan to another dealer of your brand in your territory: 25 miles in a straight line from your rooftop by default, confirmed in writing before you sign. ## Every plan includes

- A monthly AI Visibility scan and report by business day 5: when ChatGPT and Claude name you on a fixed set of buyer questions, who they name instead, the sources behind every answer (each labelled by the assistant it came from), the cars AI can find, what we did this month with links to every piece of work, and what comes next.
- A website fix list for your website vendor, sent with your written authorization, chased every week and re-checked until each fix is live. It covers AI search crawler access in your robots.txt and your CDN or firewall (you can still block crawlers that collect training data), price, mileage and the full VIN as plain text on every vehicle page, and dealer and vehicle structured data where your platform doesn’t already add it.
- Your Google Business Profile run for you as a manager while you stay the owner: categories, services, description, hours, attributes and photos kept current, and every change we make e-mailed to you within 48 hours. Vehicles are never added as Google products, because Google’s rules exclude them.
- Core listings claimed, completed and kept consistent: Bing Places, Apple Business Connect, Yelp (claim and complete only), your Facebook Page, DealerRater, and your Cars.com, CarGurus and Autotrader dealer profiles.
- 40 directory listings plus the main data aggregators, ordered in month 1, with every live link in your report.
- Reviews done by the rules: one neutral request to every sold customer from your own CRM or DMS, 2 to 5 days after delivery, with at most one reminder. No incentives, no filtering out unhappy customers, and never a Yelp request. Every Google review is answered in the reviewer’s language, and a person approves every reply to a 1-star or 2-star review.
- Delegated access only. We never ask for your passwords, and you own every profile, listing and page we build.
- Month to month. Cancel any time before your next billing date.

## What we never promise

- A top spot, or any position, in the answers of any AI assistant, AI Overview or search engine.
- Your cars or inventory showing up inside any AI assistant.
- Traffic, calls, leads, appointments or sales, or any percentage lift.
- A number of reviews, a star rating, or the removal of any review.
- What an AI assistant will say about you, or that it will leave your competitors out. Market Leader exclusivity covers only whom we sell our plans to.
- Results on AI assistants we don’t measure, or on Google’s AI Overviews.
- That a sponsored placement will be cited by an AI assistant or pass search value to your site.
- That an answer page will be indexed or cited.
- That your website vendor, Google, Apple, Bing or any directory will act by a given date, or that a profile can’t be suspended.
- Any affiliation with, or approval from, OpenAI, Anthropic or Google.
- Manufacturer website-program approval or co-op eligibility. We are not on any manufacturer’s approved-vendor list.

## Not included in any plan

- Paid ads of any kind.
- Website builds or redesigns.
- The SEO program your website vendor already sells you. We work alongside it.
- Answering buyers on Messenger, chat, phone, text or e-mail. AutoLander never answers buyers for dealers.
- Replies to reviews on sites other than Google.
- Logging into your DMS or CRM, or holding your customer lists.
- Your passwords. We use manager roles and user invites only.
- Photo or video shoots at your store. Market Leader videos are made from footage and photos you already have.
- Measurement of AI assistants other than ChatGPT and Claude, such as Google Gemini, Google’s AI Overviews or Perplexity.

## How it starts

1. **Free scan:** Tell us your store, website and city or ZIP. We ask ChatGPT and Claude up to 20 questions a buyer in your town would ask, 3 times each, with web search on.
2. **Walkthrough:** 20 minutes on your report with our team, including the 3 fixes we would make first.
3. **Agreement:** AI Foundation starts with a written agreement, month to month. AI Authority and Market Leader start with an application, and we reply within 1 business day. For Market Leader we also confirm whether your territory is available.
4. **Kickoff within 5 business days:** We agree the questions we measure. You give us Google Business Profile manager access, name who approves pages and bad-review replies, authorize our note to your website vendor and connect your inventory feed (already done if you use AutoLander).
5. **Work starts:** Your website vendor gets the fix list within 3 business days of kickoff, and your first monthly report arrives by business day 5 of the next month.

## The fine print

- Prices are in US dollars, plus tax where applicable. Plans are available to US dealerships.
- Month to month: cancel any time before your next billing date. The current month is not refunded, and you keep every profile, listing, page and video.
- AutoLander customers pay no setup fee on any plan once their AutoLander subscription at that rooftop has been active and paid for the prior 60 days.
- Dealer groups are priced per rooftop from the same table, and each rooftop can be on a different plan.
- For plans, answer pages and the cars AI can find check come from a live inventory feed: your AutoLander feed, or a CSV, XML or SFTP file from your inventory provider, set up at kickoff. The free scan may read up to five vehicle pages from your site.
- Google Business Profile is free from Google. Our fee is for our service.
- AutoLander is not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Perplexity or any AI company. ChatGPT is made by OpenAI, Claude by Anthropic, Gemini by Google and Perplexity by Perplexity AI; product names belong to their owners.

Prices and plans updated September 29, 2026.

## Selling nationally instead of from one lot?

For national and category brands, such as auto brands, online car retailers, marketplaces and dealer software companies, we run a brand scan with no location. It follows a buyer from the first questions to the final choice and shows whether ChatGPT and Claude name your brand for category questions, and which sources they cite. For now we scan English-language markets only. Brand scans and brand plans are priced by quote: e-mail sales@autolander.ai with your brand and website and we reply with the scope and a quote.

## Questions dealers ask about AEO and GEO.

### What is AEO for car dealers?

For a car dealer, AEO means making your website easy for AI tools to quote. Each common buyer question gets a clear answer in its first sentence, every vehicle page shows price, mileage and VIN as text, and your hours and address match everywhere. That is how a short, direct answer can come from your site.

### What is GEO for car dealerships?

For a dealership, GEO is the work that helps AI assistants trust your store enough to name it and cite your pages. It covers your Google Business Profile, your listings on sites like Cars.com, CarGurus and DealerRater, your reviews and replies, and crawler access, so every source an assistant reads tells the same story about your store.

### Do I still need SEO?

Yes. AEO and GEO build on SEO and don’t replace it. Google says a page must be indexed and eligible for a snippet to show as a link in its AI Overviews, which is plain SEO work. Keep the SEO program your website vendor runs, and add the answer-first pages and trust work AI tools look for.

### Can you guarantee my dealership shows up in ChatGPT?

No. No one can honestly promise what ChatGPT or any other AI assistant will say, and we don’t. We fix what keeps assistants from reading and trusting your store, do the work every month and show you the raw answers. Our scan measures ChatGPT and Claude.

### How long do AEO and GEO take?

There is no fixed timeline, and no one can promise when an AI assistant will name your store. Some fixes are read quickly: OpenAI says its search systems adjust to a robots.txt change in about 24 hours. Reviews, listings and answer pages build over months, so every plan re-asks the same questions each month and shows you the raw answers.

### What does the free scan check?

It asks ChatGPT and Claude, each with web search on, up to 20 questions a buyer in your town would ask, 3 times each. Your report shows who gets named, the sources cited, whether your vehicle pages and robots.txt let AI read your site, a score out of 100 with a margin, and the 3 fixes to make first.

### What do AEO and GEO plans cost?

The scan and the walkthrough are free. Plans are $997, $2,497 or $5,997 a month, plus a one-time setup fee of $997, $997 or $2,997. Every plan is month to month.

### Which AI assistants do you check?

Two: ChatGPT, made by OpenAI, and Claude, made by Anthropic, each with web search on. Your report labels every answer with its assistant and the sources it cited. We ask through the tools OpenAI and Anthropic publish for developers, so their chat apps may answer a shopper differently. The scan doesn’t measure Google Gemini, AI Overviews or Perplexity, but the fixes we make are what those assistants read too.

### How do you measure whether AI names my store?

A single check can mislead, because answers change from run to run. We ask every question 3 times of ChatGPT and of Claude, a person checks every match, and your score comes with a margin. On your site we read only robots.txt, your homepage, your sitemap when needed and up to five vehicle pages.

### Is my website blocking AI?

It might be. Check two places: your robots.txt, which should let AI search crawlers such as OAI-SearchBot and Claude-SearchBot in, and the security service in front of your site, which can challenge automated visitors. OpenAI says sites that opt out of OAI-SearchBot won’t be shown in ChatGPT search answers. The free scan checks both.

### Can I do AEO and GEO myself?

Yes. Let AI search crawlers in through your robots.txt and security settings, put price, mileage and VIN on every vehicle page as text, keep your name, address, phone and hours the same on Google, Bing, Apple and Yelp, and answer every review. The 3 fixes in your free report are yours to keep either way.

### Do I have to switch website vendors or give you logins?

No to both. We send a plain fix list to the website vendor you already have, with your written authorization, and re-check your site until each fix is live. The free scan uses public information only, and plans work through manager roles and user invites you control, never your passwords.

### I’m already an AutoLander customer.

Your store details are already on file, and your walkthrough can happen on your next call with us. AutoLander customers pay no setup fee on any plan once their subscription at that store has been active and paid for 60 days.

### What does “by application” mean?

We take a limited number of AI Authority and Market Leader stores at a time, so both start with an application, answered within 1 business day. Market Leader also includes brand exclusivity: while you are subscribed, we sell no AI Visibility plan to another dealer of your brand in your territory, 25 miles in a straight line from your rooftop by default, and we confirm whether your territory is available.

### We sell nationally, not from one store. Can you scan a brand?

For national and category brands, such as auto brands, online car retailers, marketplaces and dealer software companies, we run a brand scan with no location. It follows a buyer from the first questions to the final choice and shows whether ChatGPT and Claude name your brand for category questions, and which sources they cite. For now we scan English-language markets only. Brand scans and brand plans are priced by quote: e-mail sales@autolander.ai with your brand and website and we reply with the scope and a quote.

### Can an AI assistant fill in the form for me?

An assistant can bring you to this page and fill in your store’s details. You review the form and press the button yourself, and only you can tick the text-message box.

AI Visibility is AutoLander LLC's AEO and GEO service (answer engine optimization and generative engine optimization) for US car dealerships. It measures whether ChatGPT (OpenAI) and Claude (Anthropic), each with web search on, name a dealership when local buyers ask where to buy a car, then fixes what keeps AI assistants, including Google Gemini and Perplexity, from finding and trusting the store: website crawler access and vehicle-page text, the Google Business Profile, listings, reviews and answer pages. It starts with a free scan. Plans are $997, $2,497 and $5,997 a month plus setup, month to month. It is separate from AutoLander's Facebook Marketplace software.
